2022 Fly Formula Factory Edition

3 min read

Every year Fly Racing decks our team out in high-quality safety equipment that performs as well as it looks. It is a relationship that has lasted for over a decade. Supercross BMX and FLY seem to go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly as Kj would say. Things are no different for 2022 as Fly Racing continues to support our factory effort. With a new season comes new products, or new helmets, to be exact!

Today, we want to give you an inside look at the Fly Racing Formula helmet seen on every one of our Factory riders. You’ll see just about every factory rider sporting this super stylish carbon fiber lid, from the pros to the amateurs.

Let's take a few minutes to show you around the helmet and discuss why we choose this particular model to keep every rider safe.

The KingPin of Safety Technology

Since its release in 2019, the Fly Formula has been widely accepted as the safest helmet. Today, the Fly Racing Formula is the premier line of BMX Full-face helmets, replacing the once reigning F2 helmet. While the F2 was a fantastic helmet and led the industry in its own right, the Formula features many upgrades over its predecessor.

The SX WERX Edition Formula

For 2022, Fly Racing proved our riders with aFormula Carbon Prime Helmet. This model is the highest level Formula helmet packing some pretty sweet upgrades over the rest of the line.

To start:

12K Carbon Shell

A 12K Carbon Fiber shell keeps weight to an absolute minimum while also retaining a strong layer of penetration resistance. In addition, the Carbon weave is a thing of beauty on this particular model. Just one look, and you can appreciate the craftsmanship that went into it.

RHEON Energy Cells

Impact Energy Cells made of RHEON maximize absorption of low-speed impacts, thus reducing the forces transmitted to the brain. Fly Racing helmets of the past came with MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System); however, RHEON now serves as the replacement for this technology and has proven to be the safer option through rigorous testing. This unique material sets the Formula apart from its peers.

 ConeHead EPS / Expanded EPS

The Conehead EPS provides a softer liner allowing the cones to help manage/absorb impact forces more efficiently. In addition, the Formula features Six critical zones fine-tuned for progressive protection response in both low-speed and high-speed impacts. Thanks to the ConeHead EPS, the Formula can provide efficient protection across an array of varying impacts.

Along with the Conehead EPS, each Formula helmet packs strategically placed EPS in various areas of the helmet. Sections more prone to impact are back with extra protection, meaning more suspension between your head and the ground.

Ultra Lightweight

At just 1290 grams or 2.8 pounds (MD/LG sizes), the Formula is one of the lightest helmets in the field. We agree on the importance of a light bike. However, the Formula helps reduce personal riding weight further! Less weight = Faster lap times

True Functional Ventilation (TFV)

Incoming air is forced through multiple air intake vents scattered across the helmet. That same air passes through aligned vent channels within the EPS and exits through one of many exhaust vents. The TFV system keeps your head cool and comfortable in all conditions.

The Wrap Up

These features combine to make the Fly Racing Formula helmet one of the safest on the market. With how gnarly our sport can be, sometimes safety equipment gets overlooked in favor of the latest performance mods. A helmet may not be as flashy as a Carbon frame or new wheel set. But your helmet protects the most important thing on your body, the brain! It's definitely worth the investment to keep it safe. We wouldn't want to put our riders in anything less than the Fly Racing Formula, and hopefully, after reading this, you understand why.

Other Formula Options

If you're looking to pick up a Fly Racing Formula similar to the one you see here, these retail for roughly $689.99 but keep in mind that this is the most premium edition of the Formula with all the bells and whistles. However, Fly Racing offers various levels of the Formula to match every price point in the form of the CC & CP.
