Getting Rad at Rad Canyon!

This last weekend, part of the Supercross BMX Race Team made the trip to the fire ravaged state of Utah for one of the funnest races of the year, the USA BMX Great Salt Lake Nationals. Dani and Jeremy both said that it is one of their favorite tracks, and on top of that we had the 2013 FLY photo shoot and the unveiling of the 2013 Supercross ENVY’s. So before we even loaded up the trailer and jumped in the truck we knew it was going to be a great time.

We headed out late Wednesday night to get to the track in time for set up, making the all night run from Apple Valley, CA to South Jordan, Utah. It was Bill, Jeremy, Lincoln and Jared Garcia in the truck, Dani drove up Thursday with her sister Nikki and Austin, while Shannon headed up Friday with Jason Simpson. Alan was the lucky one and got to Fly in Friday and avoid the 10-12 hour drive.

Since Jeremy and Bill got to the track a day early, they started scouting out the fireworks stands and put on their own 4th of July Fire Works Show in the Hotel parking lot.

Friday morning we got to the track early and got the pits set up. The wind was so bad that we tied down the pits with the concrete buckets, we went to set out the posters and the stickers, but the wind kept blowing them away so we decided that they would be on an “asked for” basis this weekend.

Friday practice went good, everyone was having fun with the track and we got our early and the Supercross and Anarchy teams went out for one of our team dinners. Everything was kept pretty calm this time as it was a more upscale restaurant, but gOrk from the ABA (USA BMX ) was still in a little bit of danger as Jeremy and KJ wanted to start a pickle throwing fight and for some reason gOrk on the other side of the restaurant was the target they had planned. I think in the end Jeremy and KJ decided that gOrk would have to be a target for another time. Hope he has been keeping his BMX food fight skills alive as Jeremy and KJ along with Dani can hold their own in a restaurant war.

Saturday morning we showed up at the track and found out Dani wouldn’t have a class in Junior Women so she was going to be racing Elite Women, In A Pro Jeremy and Austin were the talk of the class with people laying down money that either of them would be the one to take the win, in Mens Elite, Alan was ready for his second pro race of the year and was snapping with the best of them, and in 41 over cruiser Pliska was putting on a show with GT’s Eric Rupe, it was nice to see Ken looking like the Ken of old before he had the broken leg at Boulder a few years back.

Well we won’t bore you with all the little details, ( if you followed the Supercross BMX Twitter , you probably got all the details of the day already anyway ) but the end result was awesome, in the Mains it started off with Jeremy in A Pro, Jeremy had a bad gate and had to work the track to it’s fullest and did a trademark Jeremy rocket blast down the last straight and went from 5th to 2nd, the kid has last straight pull like there is no tomorrow.

Up next was Dani in Elite Women, Dani shot out of the gate like a rocket, and pulled a gate full of Olympians and current ABA #1 Pro’s, Dani pulled the track and had the win going into the last turn where Caroline Buchanan past her and took the win.

Next up was Alan with a stacked Mens Elite rack. Alan had the snap out of the gate and the pull to the first jump but that is where he couldn’t hold them off anymore. Considering that this is his 2nd Elite Race of the year a 5/3/5 finish in his motos was awesome, but 13 with a 5 didn’t make the cut to the semi’s.

Then Dani had to run right back up for Class where she won 17/27g.

Right after Dani’s class, it was Slim’s turn around the track and he took  a second to GT’s Eric Rupe, so it was a great day of racing, 3 seconds and a win.

After the photo shoot, Dani and Jeremy were invited to do the 2013 FLY photo shoot. This has become an annual tradition with FLY and the riders love to see and try out the new gear early. And this year FLY again did not disappoint. Dani tweeted that it is some of the best gear she has ridden, so comfortable and looked great. Jeremy was trying to steal the set he got to use, it was almost like they had custom picked out the gear for Dani and Jeremy as Dani got to wear Lakers, Purple and Gold and Jeremy, well lets just say they are going to call the color he got to wear “Sherbert”, it matched Jeremy perfectly. I can easily see a cover coming out of this shoot for either of them.

After a long hot day at the track, we skipped a team dinner and headed to a quick Taco Bell run ( one of Anarchy’s New Elite Men KJ Romero’s sponsors we might add ) and back to the hotel as Sunday morning was going to come up too fast.

After a quick pro warm up, they did the podium shots for the day before. Dani being the consumate professional she is made sure she wore her goggles up to rep EKS Brand, and Jeremy, well Jeremy is just Jeremy and we couldn’t get him to stop making faces.

Sunday started off with Jeremy winning his first round of A Pro, followed up by Dani winning her first round of Elite Women.

Alan had another rack that was an Elite Main, Willers, Day, Harris, it was a main. Again Alan had the snap and could hold them off until the first jump but that was where he would lose ground. If he keeps his snap and gains his track speed back that he used to be so famous for he is going to be dangerous.

Dani then backed up her Elite Moto win with a win in class and Ken rolled up the hill for cruiser and took a second to Rupe in his first round.

Jeremy came back for second round with another win, and Dani decided to do the same and won her second round of A Pro, and Slim thought that since Jeremy and Dani were putting in the wins, he made sure to beat Rupe in the second round. So the day was going strong.

For the Mains, Jeremy shot out like a cannon and won the thing wire to wire for A Pro, Dani shot out of a cannon as well and was in second behind Caroline again and it looked like she was going to take another second in Elite women and it ended up coming down to a photo finish at the line where the current ABA #1 Elite Woman, barely passed her. Dani had to run right back to staging where she took another win in 17/27g. Then it was Ken’s turn and he ended up taking a second behind Rupe again. Two firsts, a second and a Third for the day.  A great weekend for everyone, we are so proud of all of them. And not too bad of a debut for the new 2013 ENVY’s either. Be watching Thursday for a preview of the new 2013 ENVY’s to be posted up here. Until then, please enjoy the pics from the weekend.
